SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI REVIEWS:Jack frost and company

 


Shin megami tensei is a weird series. Mother of the persona series, probably one of the most popular bunch of games there is as of late, but ol' smt is nowhere near as well known.  For those uninitiated, Shin megami tensei games usually revolve around some sort of disaster happening and presents the player with 3 different ways they can go about playing depending on their moral stances. Oh yeah and there's demons. 

That's all that I'm willing to summarize, and I do recommend playing one for yourself, besides we're here to talk about demons yeah? 

Jack Frost


Any series that has you capturing and fighting alongside monsters should have a mascot! Pokemon has Pikachu, Digimon has Agumon, and Smt's darling is Jack Frost. The good old Embodiment of winter himself. Old demon designer Kazuma Kaneko decided Jack Frost should be an adorable snowman in a silly jester getup, and I wholeheartedly agree. I think it's a very nice and simple design, while still being just complicated enough that it sticks. 

Also Jack Frost has a fun little "Hee Ho" vocal tick. All of the jacks do actually.

Pyro Jack


Here's Jack Frost's "brother", a Jack o' lantern.Cute!Fire and ice, Halloween and Christmas,they really are perfect for each other. I don't have quite as strong an opinion on pyro Jack, but he is precious.Has a jack 'o lantern monster ever been disappointing? I think not.

Jack Ripper


Yeah. Like Jack the ripper. Obviously the next step after a snowman and a pumpkin is a famous serial killer!

If I'm remembering correctly Jack Ripper isn't the real deal, he was just born from fear of him. Which is a fun way to go about including ol' Jack. Jack Frost may be my favorite of the 3, But Our pal right here is easily the most charming.I mean who can say they aren't instantly charmed by a funny little skeleton in a coat and fedora wielding a pocket knife. Adorable! 

Overall:10/10

King Frost


We're still not done talking about Jacks!this is King Frost, although whether or not the Jack Frost's really respect his authority remains to be seen. This is also isn't actually King Frost's first design, but this is the one you'll see used most these days. It's alright, funny fat king type design. I'm personally not a fan of his mechanical get up though. It's cool, but it does come off as bit much. 

His original design is much simpler but I think all the more charming. I especially enjoy his "throne" of underlings desperately trying to crawl out from under him. Or maybe they're enjoying it. Weirdos. 

Rating: 6/10

Black Frost

Black Frost! This is what happens when Jack gets serious about this demon stuff, becoming especially powerful and evil. He trades his nice whites and blues for an EVIL black and purple. Even crushing his non-evil brethren under his foot. Evil! 


Also he's huge.

check out this kickass theme song. Hell Teacher Nube, or Jigoku sensei nube, is a manga and anime about an elementary school teacher with a demon sealed in his right hand. Throughout the many chapters of the original run and sequel mangas, he protects his students from all manner of nasty yokai and supernatural phenomenon. Of course with a series like this there's bound to be tons of different spooks to be found, and in this post I'm gonna go over a few of my favorites.  99 Legged Bug The very first yokai of the series is described as a small parasitic worm that causes young children to be testy and irritable. This particularly strong one has been possessing one of the main kids, Hiroshi. What a cool design though! This fella brings to mind many types of parasitic worm like hookworms or tapeworms, but with a mouth full of sharp fangs, and a big eye socket full of deranged bloodshot eyes of varying size. VIOLET'S REVIEW EM ALL SPECTACULAR: Bulbasaur

 That's right, Violet's reviewing pokemon! All of them! Violet's doing a pokemon now!  If somehow you've been living under a rock and avoided the multimedia mega franchise that is a "pocket mens", well I'm not gonna baby you! Look it up! Lazy bum! Anyway if I'm to review every pokemon, what better way to start,then at. Well. At the start. The very first Pokemon in the lineup. BULBASAUR  Good old Bulbasaur! For some reason the least popular of the three possible choices you start your Pokemon journey with,and that's a shame. Bulbasaur is a grass/poison type, which is weird considering most starters begin with only one type, but also because I don't remember the little guy ever doing anything with poisons and venoms.  But there are more pressing matters. Such as, what is a Bulbasaur? Lots of people seem content to say it's a frog. While I do see it, Bulbasaur has SAUR in the name, so it most be some sorta reptile then. But wait kinda reptile ...
